Tertuis Simmers is the newly appointed Western Cape Minister of Human Settlements. Born in Nelspruit, Tertuis Simmers has four children, 3 boys and a girl and is married to Monique Simmers. He has been active in politics for the past 19 years. Between 2011-2017 and prior to becoming a Member of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament in 2017, he served as a Mayoral Committee Member (MAYCO), on the Corporate Services, Roads and Asset Management Committee, as well as Speaker of the Eden District Municipality. Apart from serving on the Western Cape Bargaining Council Division of the South African Local Government Association (SALGA), where he was as a member of the Plenary and the Executive between 2011-2017, he also qualified as a Skills Development Facilitator in 2015. He enjoys jogging and is an avid chess player. In fact, he is keen to challenge anyone who might think that they are a better chess player. |
Cllr Memory Booysen was elected as the seventh Executive Mayor of Eden District Municipality (Eden DM), which is now known as Garden Route District Municipality (GRDM). Since the district’s establishment in 2001. Councillor Booysen will serve the district until 2021 and will provide strategic direction to GRDM. He has a passion for people and a vast knowledge of how Local Government works. Booysen is responsible for identifying and developing criteria to place the district on a progressive path, as well as to implement strategies and programmes that will enhance service delivery. Councillor Booysen was born in Hankey, Eastern Cape, on 28 June 1969. He is a father of three daughters and a husband to Estelle Booysen. His father, John, passed on in 1980 and his mother, Buyiswa, resides in Kwanokuthula, Plettenberg Bay. Cllr Booysen continues to draws inspiration from his mother. She has always been a pillar of support to him. Councillor Booysen matriculated from Humansdorp Secondary School in 1987 and studied for a Diploma in Education at the University of the Western Cape. He then went on to study Hotel Management at Wits Technikon. He has worked in the hospitality industry for over a decade. His work in the hospitality industry made him a people’s person. During 2002 he moved to the public sector, and during 2006, he was elected as a Bitou Ward Councillor. Five years later, he was elected as the Executive Mayor of Bitou Municipality. He finished his term at Bitou in 2016 and took office at GRDM, heading the district’s highest position – Executive Mayor. |

In 2009 neem haar lewe n dramatiese wending a.g.v. 'n Motorongeluk en die lang pad na herstel begin. In 2012 word sy die CEO en een van die Stigterslede van Beautifull Women."" Beauti" beteken uiterlike skoonheid en voorkoms. "Full" beteken vol van die Liefde, Heerlikheid, Genade en Krag. In 2014 laat sy die lig sien van haar eerste boek ""Die Liefde Bly Die Grootste"" en die eerste oplaag word uit verkoop. Tans werk sy as vrywillige Traumaberader by die Suid Afrikaanse Polisie Diens en as Bemarker by Mossview wat die Bemarkingstydskrif Living in Hessequa en Hessequa Nuus uitbring. |

Moira Krige: SANWIT Western Cape Chairperson Born in Cape Town and grew up on the Cape Flats. She moved to Mitchell's Plain in 1977 and matriculated in 1985, during the turbulent student uprisings. She studied Social Sciences at the University of Western Cape and got married at the age of 21. She was employed at Stride Investments for 16 and a half years in the capacity of Sales lady, Human Resource Officer, Storemanager and eventually resigned in 2006 as Distribution Centre Manageress. In November 2007 she joined South African National Taxi Council's(SANTACO) Women's Desk, where she was elected as Regional Chairpersons of the Mitchell's Plain Region. In August 2008, she was elected as the first SANTACO Women's Desk, Secretary General of the Western Cape. She also joined the Organization SANWIT in 2008. In August 2011, she was elected as Deputy Chairperson of SANWIT Western Cape and in 2014 when the Chairperson of SANWIT Western Cape was co-opted as SANWIT National Treasurer, she assumed the position of SANWIT Western Cape Chairperson. In 2014, she also registered a Not for Profit Organisation called Cape Culture Heritage. They conduct School Holiday Programs and also run Empowerment programs for Women and Youth.They also started a recycling project in 2015. To date, she is still the Chairperson of SANWIT Western Cape and also serve on the SANWIT National Council. |
